OSIACA News
On July 25, Paula Uccelli, our 2006 Western Foundation Humanitarian Award Honoree, presented the $2500 Pete & Paula Uccelli Foundation Scholarship to San Carlos resident Rose Lyra Boncimino, who graduated from Carlmont High School with a GPA of 4.4. In her junior year, Rose enrolled in the Middle College Program at Canada College, which allowed her to simultaneously take classes in high school and college. She also has assisted under-resourced Bay Area residents. In addition, Rose works as a supervisor at Starbucks, and often gets up at 3:00 am to be at work at 4:00 am, and has an 18 mile daily round-trip bike commute to work-school-home. Rose surely appreciates the value of hard work and perseverance!
Rose’s goal is to earn a degree in psychology at UC Davis and then work on a doctorate. She plans to help “alleviate the psychological underpinnings of distress” in her patients. Rose’s proud parents are Christopher and Christa Boncimino, and her Italian grandparents are Dennis James and Barbara Ann Boncimino. Her Italian roots originate from Palermo, Sicily, of which she is very proud.
Our State President Arlene M. Nunziati and yours truly were also present at the luncheon held at Vino Santo Restaurant in Redwood City, and we all had the opportunity to learn more about this outstanding student. Congratulations, Rose! We wish you much happiness and success in your future!
