Hello from Redding:

This past weekend was a big one for our lodge. Paesano Days was held Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th. Friday night was the start of our bocce tournament, and our Spaghetti Dinner. We served about 900 people. The weather was perfect and our new layout at the park worked out great. By noon Saturday we had sold out of cannoli, and shortly thereafter we were out of raffle tickets. The Bocce Tournament went well with 30 teams participating. The winners were Beersagna led by our friend Tina Carletta. She also made Pizza Fritta for Saturday morning to go with the mimosas. The Vincenzo Bellini lodge from Chico had a bocce team headed by their President Tony George and played well but didn’t place. Our State Deputy John Jefsen and his lovely wife Lorna, also from the Vincenzo Bellini Lodge, were at our event on Friday night.

Our Raffle grand prize was $500 cash and was won by our member Doug Phelps who was there helping in the beer booth and food court.

As much as we need rain, we were glad it held out until our popup tents were down and the bocce finals were almost over. On Monday the courts looked like a pond with the standing water from the rain.

Our chairman for the event, John Tasello, had a great crew of workers from the lodge members to many friends from our community.

Next up, many of our members are going to Reno for their 40th Great Italian Festival on Columbus Day. Then on October 15th we will be hosting the Alyssa Araiza Wings of Angels fundraiser. They raise money for families of seriously ill children. This is the 20th annual event at our lodge and we serve a spaghetti and meatball dinner to a very large crowd.
