Last Month: Not much to report, Lodge-wise … just keeping up with the COVID score and learning to sing “Happy Birthday” while I wash my hands. Have you figured out how to make a Quarantinni yet? The United Lodges of the Central San Joaquin Valley: Next Meeting will be June 14 of 2020 (Heaven allowing) in Clovis. Jennifer, at Andiamo’s, says they will take good care of us if they are allowed. If it happens, it will be at 11:30 to place your food order; call Carol Watson at 906-3721 to reserve your spot.
This Month, Monday, May 18, 2020, our meeting will most likely be cancelled, but stay tuned. It mostly dependsof what space will be available for us to use.

The Grand Lodge Convention that was scheduled for June 25 in Concord, CA, has been cancelled following a poll of the lodges. The announcement was made by Grand Lodge President, John Costa. The first recorded Italian to reside in the American colonies was Pietro Cesare Alberti, a Venetian seaman who, in 1635, settled in what would eventually become New York City. A small wave of Protestants, known as Waldensians, who were of French and northern Italian heritage (specifically Piedmontese), occurred during that time. Also, in the 1600s, the Paca family arrived in the colonies; their descendant, William Paca, an attorney, representing the colony of Maryland, signed the Declaration of Independence. Paca was selected by George Washington to serve on the Supreme Court. The motto of Maryland is Fatti Maschii, Parola Femine, meaning, literally “manly deeds, womanly words”. It is the only American state motto written in Italian. These are the times that we need to support our friends: get your take-out orders from our old stand-by restaurants: Lunas, at 299- 4141; Andiamo’s, at 299-4141; Boo Boo Bean Bakery, at 570- 8093; and Clovis DiCicco’s at 299-3711; and, don’t forget to tip.
-An old Italian idiom says: “In bocca al lupo!” (Into the mouth of the wolf!). It is a way of saying Good luck! The reply is not to say “thank you”, but rather “Crepi il lupo!” (May the wolf croak!) Of course, you can wish someone buona fortuna, but this way seems more fun. It is said that as we age, we “live and learn”; live and learn faster with a scholarship by contacting Isabel Ronzano; large national and state SDoI scholarships are also offered.
