Send your articles and event flyers to: illeone.ca@gmail.com

Our goal is to ensure that your IL Leone is in your mailbox on or before the 1st of every month.

YOUTH

Saluti Fratelli e Sorelle,

I would like to include the convention delegates and attendees with the youth and with a free Friday evening I am trying to plan a San Francisco Giants vs. The Los Angeles Dodgers game. If there is interest from everyone. I checked with the giants recently about prices and if I get enough people that are interested, I can move forward with reserving tickets. Pricing varies and the game deemed as a “premium” game against the rival Dodgers. 3rd deck seating

PROFILES IN COURAGE

It feels like yesterday I was walking across the stage at Napa High School during the scholarship ceremony. I heard my name “John Cardinale” called over the microphone as I had received the Sons of Italy, Western Foundation Scholarship. I was proud the Italian-American community had selected me. That was in 2015. Soon I would be heading to the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State a long way from Napa, and a much bigger city. My goal was to become a broadcast journalist. Growing up watching news in the Bay Area

Traditions

Many years ago it was a tradition for our brothers and sisters to carry with them a sprig of Boxwood, (Bosso in Italian) or Buxus as was called in ancient times to the funeral at the loss of a brother and sister.  Then to place the boxwood either in or on the casket to wish their brother or sister eternal life.  As time has moved forward it seems this tradition has gone by the wayside.

Boxwood is a popular evergreen shrub
