Our Veterans Stand Down pasta dinner at the Ferndale fairgrounds served over 150 hungry vets on September 27th. This is always a special and meaningful event, however, sadly Caterina Stagnoli one of our most faithful potluck attendees was not with us. Thank you Dave and Donna Olivieri for organizing it every year. The September potluck consisted of a lot of good food and fellowship.
No meeting in November. The Christmas
Fall is finally ready to make an appearance even though October has still had a number of 100-degree days. Fortunately, the cool weather is coming back.
We have had a busy few months. August was our annual Gene Bruno Picnic and Bocce Games. Forty enthusiastic players enjoyed playing and, of course, eating. Cooks Frank Mossa and Rory Nichols outdid themselves,
Greetings from Redding,
We had our great Paesano Days event on September 13th and 14th. It was nice seeing our State Second Vice President Louie Lodi and Londi. He “sang for his supper” and received $140 in tips which he donated to our scholarship fund. Thank you Louie. We were very pleased to have Shasta Classics car club join us with a car show on Saturday with almost 180 cars. Our Bocce
October’s polenta and chicken Pinochi and Stagnoli scholarships fundraising dinner will be held on October 20th from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the Elks Lodge on Herrick Avenue. Thank you to Bonnie DuMond and all who are working so hard to sell tickets.
The Italian festival at Redwood Ballfields had sunny but breezy weather. Twelve teams participated in the bocce tournament. Team Razzle, (Bob Doerr and Traudy Gretchen) won the championship. Team Dazzle (Ron Dawson and Ben Herman) finished second.
Many thanks to Betty Senestraro for graciously providing the 1st and 2nd place prizes.
Donna again made polenta. Dave Olivieri and Nick Giannini served up delicious sausage bocce dogs with loads of onions and peppers.
Thank you to Dave and Donna Olivieri and all the many others who helped set up (and take-down) the festival.
Special recognition goes to Ralph Giannini,
Hello from Redding,
Shasta Lodge is very sad to announce the passing of Jim Lamanna. Jim joined Shasta Lodge in April 1980, just two months after Shasta Lodge 2453 received our charter, and has been a member ever since. Jim was President of Shasta Lodge for 12 years and then again for a short period when our President resigned. Jim was our Orator until recently, when his health made it hard for him to attend the meetings. Jim
