Shasta Lodge #2453

Hello from Redding,

Summer is here and we are usually pretty quiet at Shasta Lodge. However, plans are in the works for a drive-thru spaghetti dinner as part of our “Raise the Roof” program. The Redding Grange our landlords, and Shasta Lodge, need to put a new roof on the building and the cost is extremely high. During the next year we will be having some fundraisers that will go toward the cost of the new roof. For any of you hunters out there, the Redding Grange is having a gun raffle on August 19th. The tickets are $20 each and there will only be 300 sold. The gun is a RUGER AMERICAN RIFLE WITH GO WILD CAMO. Caliber 6.5 Creedmoor with a Vortex 4-12 x 40 Scope. Sling and hardcase included. For more information, or to purchase tickets, you may contact John Tasello at 530-365-5978. The winner will be drawn at our Drive-thru Spaghetti Dinner on August 19th.

Our bocce leagues are over now and they were enjoyed by all. Two of our members won the Senior League, Don and Lyn Porter. The 2-man league was won by a couple who were just learning the game, and they beat out last year’s champs. The 4-man league was won by Eric Adams team “Brews your Daddy”. We are now in the process of completing the applications for the bocce tournament that will be held during our Paesano Days event that will be held on September 15th and 16th. If you would like an application, you can email John Tasello at JT@shasta.com and he will be sure to send one to you..

At our general meeting on June 19th we gave $2000 scholarships to three very deserving junior members. Sierra Anderson is the granddaughter of our President Jim and First Lady Rose Nobili. She just completed her first year at Shasta College and is planning to continue at Shasta College, until she chooses a college to attend to become an ultrasound technician. She spends a lot of time helping with the Redding Rotary, the American Red Cross, and Shasta Lodge, along with a summer job.

The second scholarship was awarded to Taryn Giacomelli. Taryn also just completed her first year at Shasta College and will continue her education there for another year before going to UC San Marcos with plans to become a high school mathematics teacher. She is active with Shasta Lodge, working on the bocce courts, at Paesano Days, and the Crab Feed. She is also working at Children’s Dentistry of Redding.

The third scholarship will be awarded in July as Camille Erickson was out of town and unable to come to the meeting. She, too, will be attending Shasta College for her second year and has plans to attend a four year college to get a degree in Neonatal Physical Therapy. She volunteers a lot of time at Shasta Lodge with Paesano Days, Crab Feed and is a lifeguard at the Redding YMCA.
