Greetings from Redding:

We were very happy to initiate five new members at our general meeting in August, all with Italian backgrounds. We welcome Dean Clark, Mary Clark, Lynette Porter, Lois Morgan and Carolyn Gomes. I am sure they will all enjoy Shasta Lodge as members of our family. We have five more applications we hope to initiate soon.

Congratulations to our former Junior member Andrew Zufall and his wife Lindsey Zufall, the two new Drs. Zufall in Redding. They both graduated in June, Andrew with his dental degree and Lindsey with her veterinary degree. Welcome back to Redding.

In 2009, our Vice President John DiMatteo started a recycling program for our lodge. As of July this year he has recycled cans and bottles and has made a whopping $10,888 for our lodge. Thank you John for all you do.

Thank you to Jim Giacomelli and John Tasello and their lodge crew for all the work on preparing our bocce courts for the upcoming Paesano Days Tournament, adding a speaker system, more lights, and improvements to the surface of the courts.
We lost another friend and lodge member a couple of days ago. Angie Massa was ninety-nine years old. Rest in Peace our friend.

We are very busy getting ready for our second big event of the year, Paesano Days. This is around the 35th time this has been held. On Friday night we have our Spaghetti Dinner and usually feed upwards of 800 meals. We also start our 32 team, double elimination Bocce Tournament. On Saturday the Bocce continues and we have our food court busy serving Italian sausage and pepper sandwiches, meatball sandwiches, pasta bowls with meatballs, and hot dogs for the kids and kids at heart. Of course our beer and wine booth will be busy too. We will also have a corn hole tournament going on the tennis courts, vendor/crafters, Italian Music, and of course our heritage booth and our huge raffle. AND…both days we will have cannoli. If you need more information, please call Chair John Tasello at 530-365-5978. We hope a few of you will be able to join us.
It has cooled down to 109 today, August 20th, from 112 yesterday We hope all of you are keeping cool.

Ciao from your friends at Shasta Lodge.
