Shasta Lodge #1586

Hello from Redding,

While Shasta Lodge seems to always be busy we have slowed down a bit since our Crab Feed. On April 5th seven member of our lodge attended a dinner at Win-River Casino sponsored by the Shasta County Veterans Affiliated Council. Our lodge was presented with the President’s Award and also received special recognition from our U.S. House of Representative from California, Doug LaMalfa, our California State Senator, Brian Dahle and our California State Assembly member Megan Dahle. Congratulations to our lodge for their support of Veterans in our county.

On April 7th, our landlord the Redding Grange 446 held a spaghetti feed fundraiser for their scholarship fund and raised over two thousand dollars. We also held a raffle for a pistol and ammunition, which netted $2000 for their building fund to finish the second half of the new roof for our building. Hopefully we will be seeing that done by early summer.

We have lost another member John Zufall. John was a younger member who was becoming very active in the lodge. Unfortunately he passed away while on a family vacation to Hawaii. He recently retired early from the Marshall’s office. Rest in Peace our friend.

On April 13th, twelve of our members made the trip to Weed for their lodge’s 100th anniversary celebration. They are our parent lodge. We enjoyed seeing so many long standing members receive recognition. Shasta Lodge was able to make a donation to their scholarship fund. They certainly hosted a wonderful celebration. Four of our members spent the night in Mt. Shasta and woke up to 4 inches of snow the next morning.

One morning last week about eight of our members were at South City Park working on preparing the bocce courts for the Spring Bocce League which starts the 3rd week of April and runs for about 6 weeks. There are three night leagues and one morning senior league. On April 19th some of our members went to Chico to join the Vincenzo Bellini Lodge’s bocce enthusiasts for a little friendly play on the City of Chico’s new bocce courts.

By the time you read this our anniversary party will be over. We held it on May 4th, to coincide with the Kentucky Derby for a fun themed party. We also named the Most Honored Member of 2023. This was Shasta Lodge’s 44th anniversary.
