The celebration of the Sacramento Lodge’s 100th Anniversary was held on January 25th and exceeded our expectations with over 100 attendees! We were able to celebrate the fellowship of our lodge, as well as four members with 40, 45, and 50 years of being part of the Sons and Daughters of Italy. Honorees were: David Carboni – 50 years; Pam Tedesco – 50 years; Barbara Alfidi – 45 years; and Ed Smith – 40 years.
The lodge was originally founded by Eduardo Gustalli, Giovanni Santini, and Armando Bondi on January 7, 1925 as the Giacomo Puccini Lodge. Many years later, in January 1991 the Regina Margherita Lodge #1423 merged with the Sacramento Lodge. Two of the noteworthy pieces on display that evening was the original charter and a ledger dated 1926-1936 written in Italian. We currently have members as young as 3 years old, all the way up to 97 years young, as well as several third, and one fourth-generation families that are all members of the Sacramento Lodge.
Welcome and Opening Remarks were made by Lodge President Danny Marinelli and we were honored to have State President Arlene Nunziati. We also had numerous Grand Lodge of California officers and committee chairs along with other lodges celebrating with us.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Randy Peters Event Center, along with a “Dessert Dash” of delectable treats donated by local businesses. We were treated with past State President Maria Fassio Pignati’s singing of both the American and Italian National Anthems. Carlo Solivan and State 2nd Vice President Louie Lodi delighted us by singing throughout the evening.
We have a saying in our lodge “Come as friends and leave as family” and the night truly embraced that!
We invite everyone to join us in our next two lodge special events: Spring Bocce and Picnic on Saturday, April 26th and our Annual Shrimp Feed on Saturday, October 25th.
