Northern Solano Lodge # 2534

Attendance at the 87th Grand Convention was very stimulating. It was nice to be among so many people who are passionate about their Italian heritage. It is true, Italians are the friendliest people in the world. State President Arlene Nunziati went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and heard. We were fortunate to have our National President, Michael Polo, attend this year’s convention. He shared with us his vision of what the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America should strive to be.

Past State President John Costa presented the Janet Capello Distinguished Member Award.  The award went to Past 1st Vice President, Visalia Lodge Member and current Western Foundation Trustee Pauline Richmond.  Congratulation Pauline, well deserved!! Janet would have approved!

As for the Northern Solano Lodge, we have been very busy. The Food Bank team affixed “Not for Sale” labels on 1452 jars of almond better to get them ready for distribution to families in need. Our Lunch Bunch group enjoyed a delicious lunch at Burger City in Vacaville arranged by Pam Boes. The school supplies project, organized by Charlene Godden-Ping, is in full swing during June and July. Supplies will be delivered to Anna Kyle Elementary in Fairfield at the beginning of August. Our monthly card nights, however, have been put on hold for a few months. Some serious card players are brainstorming how to get our card nights back on track.

For Saturday, August 17th we are planning our annual Gene Bruno picnic at the Senior Center bocce courts. Teams will be assigned, and Don Cradduck is making up Italian names for each team. For example, the Holy Cannolis or the Meatballers have been popular names in the past. Whether a beginner or a pro, we all look forward to this fun event.

Yes, we have been busy, but we also make time for fun. Summer has really hit with a vengeance. These 100 degrees plus days are relentless. We hope everyone enjoys their summer days and activities. Try to stay cool and, above all, stay safe.
