This magnificent season of our lodge is evaporating fast, a lot faster than the epic amounts of snow that we have received this year! That snow has lifted us out of one of our burdens, namely, the devastating drought we were embroiled in. Also seemingly gone is the fear and severity of the Covid epidemic. Which nearly wiped out our Lodge.

But we’re a resilient group that has sprung way back from what we were left with when restrictions brought on by the epidemic were lifted. With membership down, from the close down dictated by government, the desire for members to mix with each other when restrictions were lifted and the attrition of time and mobility on some members, our overall membership numbers were depressingly decreased. Today, with a season almost over, we have bounced way back with over 30 new members, and we are still counting. Talk about resilience!

And again this season we had another wonderfully successful golf tournament in November, and we’re going to do it again this coming NOVEMBER 13, 2023 at the Indian Canyons Golf Course! We thank our participating members, and those from other lodges for making the tournament such a success. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing volunteers that put the nuts and bolts together, to make the tourney work. Without them there would be no tournament, period!! THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!

From proceeds of that tournament we were able to donate $6,000.00 to to the Western Foundation, and that was spectacular. We indeed hope that our members, who have been playing, and making the tournament so successful, are coming back again, and that new members, and any members of other Lodges that want to join in on the festivities will participate. And as usual an incredible epicurean Italian buffet lunch will immediately be following the tournament. The buffet is only $44.00 per person. The golf tournament is $155 for members and $180 for non DS Lodge members. And don’t forget to advertise anything you want on our $100 tee signs, that are virtually guaranteed to double your business.

In my next article I’m going to devote a portion of the article to “what it takes to put the tournament together from all aspects, even something as seemingly simple as the gift baskets, that we auction off, and the work done by our volunteers to put them together!”

We’ll be closing after our May 24th Wednesday dinner and show, which will be hosted by Larry Capeloto. He’s telling more jokes as part of his routine, and it has become a more and more popular segment. Even to the extent of some members, actually maybe just one, calling Larry with jokes that he can use. That joke tipster is Guido, and perhaps someday he’ll deliver a few himself, if Pamela gives it her seal of approval. I think this contributing material, volunteering and all manner of things that support our Lodge, is what makes our Lodge the best! Way to go Guido.

And a shout out for our friends Norm and Rose who recently visited the lodge and sang for us. They’re bringing their new show to town Friday April 14 from Las Vegas. For a dinner and show, starting with 5:30 dinner and 7:00pm show. The show is, Rose Kingsley & Carmen Romano, A Tribute to the music of Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga. Show is at Chef George Restaurant in Bermuda Dunes. Call 760-200-1768 for information and tickets which are $25.00 per person.

We want to also thank our member, Ron Latteri for a wonderful donation to our scholarship fund in memory of five people
