Who would ever have thought that wearing (or not wearing) a mask could be so difficult? And, that same thought can be applied to getting a health protecting vaccination? Kaiser Hospital reports that those people that have had the full COVID-19 vaccinations are experiencing a near zero possibility of death as compared to a 1.6% chance of death (USA statistic) for the unvaccinated. Also, be aware that the ordinary flu season is upon us, and Kaiser has already started their program.

Last month (September) we had the first United Lodges of the San Joaquin luncheon meeting, presided by our vice-president Pauline Richmond; a short re-cap of lodge activities was discussed. The next meeting will be December 11 at the Hanford Historical Society building, so let Carol Watson know if you will be attending. Rides to Hanford can be arranged.

For our October and November meetings we are planning to meet, but not at Notre Dame Hall (not yet open to us). Most likely, it will be a no-host pizza get-together at a local restaurant; stay tuned to your phone for details; reservations will be required.

For our December 20 meeting, we have scheduled a no-host dinner at Andiamo’s Restaurante in Clovis, CA, for 6:00 PM; reservations will be required, and seating is limited.

Before the Etruscans or Rome, ancient settlers in norther Italy were making pancetta and salami. The Roman Army used these meats as part of their way to provision the troops. Salami is prepared through fermentation, so, the nutritional value comes through that method.
