Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I didn’t find out until after the September IL Leone went to print last month that we lost one of our longest members in the United States of 80 years, Ms. Yolanda Rosterolla. To see her smile would light up the room. It was an honor and a privilege to have known her. We will all miss her. God Bless.
On September 13th, I drove to Redding for the Shasta Lodge #2453 “Annual Paesano Days”. What a wonderful two-day event! The Bocce Tournament had about twenty-five teams and my team took 10th place, which I thought was much better than 25th! The Bocce Ball Tournament was a great fundraiser for Special Olympics and it was moving to see some of the special needs team members rolling the bocce balls. I had to leave before the end of the tournament, but I counted on The Bracket Board from start to finish. There were over fifty-five games scheduled to be played, that’s a lot of bocce!
The raffle prizes were amazing, thanks to the Raffle Committee of Gerry Carroll and Sharon Roberts. There were close to one hundred gift certificates and baskets, as well as a silent auction. The food served included pasta, sausage and meatball sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, and cannoli for dessert. Mangia! Mangia!
In addition, the Lodge had 180 cars on display from hot rods to antiques. Pat Karch was there to help people locate their ancestries. It was so great to watch people learn about their families!
This event was successful because of the efforts of two guys who are so proud of their Italian Heritage, Lodge President Jim Nobli and Jim Giacomelli. Thanks to all the hard-working members of Shasta Lodge #2453 for another successful Paesano Days Celebration.
