On Tuesday, July 9, Italian Heritage Night with the SF Giants vs. the Toronto Blue Jays was held at Oracle Park,. As a Community Sponsor with the Giants, members of our Grand Lodge were present, including our State President Arlene M. Nunziati. The Aurora Mandolin Orchestra serenaded guests walking in, and the orchestra from La Scuola Internazionale under the baton of Maestro Carlo Dean provided the on-field pregame entertainment. Italian Vice Consul General Davide Corriero threw out the first pitch, and our Consul General Sergio Strozzi gave a welcoming address. In addition, there was a touching tribute to the great Giant Willie Mays. It was a great night for our Italian Heritage, and we were thrilled to see the Giants win 4-3 at the last minute!
On Friday, July12, Italy’s acrobatic demonstration team, the Frecce Tricolori, flew into San Francisco from a performance in Monterey. Consul General Sergio Strozzi hosted a great celebration party at Crissy Field/Veteran Outlook, overlooking San Francisco, the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, since it has been over 30 years since their last visit to the City. The Frecce painted the skies in green, white, and red, to the cheers and applause of the crowd. It was an exhilarating, precise, and awe-inspiring event showcasing Italian technology and pride. The Frecce then went to Sacramento for an air show. Viva Italia!!
